Thuppakki review by cinema lead | THUPPAKI REVIEW | Thuppakki movie review

Starring
Vijay, Kajal Agarwal, Jayaram, Vidyut Jamwal, Sathyan
Direction
A.R. Murugadoss
Music
Harris Jayaraj
Production
Kalaipuli S Dhanu

Thuppakki marks the joining together of AR Murugadoss, Ilayathalapathy Vijay and world class cinematographer Santhosh Sivan.  Does the film rise up to the expectation?

Jagadish is an army man who comes on a vacation to his hometown in Mumbai. His parents’ efforts to get him married did not succeed. However, he develops an attraction towards the proposed girl at a later stage only to be rejected by her. Do they join or not make for the romantic portion of the film.

On the other hand, the hero happens to come across a bus blast and gets to keep his hands on the perpetrator of the crime. However, he was sure that the criminal is not the head man and that he is only a sleeper cell. He wants to catch hold of the lead man. How intelligently he moves ahead and makes Mumbai free of terrorists’ sleeper cells forms the crux of the story.

Vijay is a pleasure to watch.  After a loud performance in Velayudham and a subtle performance in Nanban, the actor stands out in the role of an army man, where one has to use one’s intelligence and muscle power equally. He is fit as a fiddle and his beefed up look in the army man attire is mention worthy. Vijay as usual delights the audience with his dancing skills, though at times you feel that the director has gone for an overkill of the same. Vijay’s costumes have also gone for a makeover like his character in the film for the good. Vidyut Jamwal as the villain has scope for performance and he has given a convincing performance.

Like any other AR Murugadoss film, the love angle in the film has a fresh appeal. Kajal Aggarwal has done justice to her role. Sathyan as the sub-inspector has nothing major to do but is good and adds some lighter moments to the other wise action based script. Jayaram as the army officer too has done a good job.

Santhosh Sivan’s camera does not need any introduction. The film has been extensively shot in Mumbai and the city unfolds before you in all its busy charm. Harris Jayaraj’s songs are good and the songs have been picturized in the most beautiful manner. However, the placement and number of songs do not go well for the film’s pace and length. One feels it should have been a respite if at least two songs had been removed from the film. Though good, the BGM gives out a heard-before feel. Sreekar Prasad’s editing is good and excels in action scenes.

The film is engaging and racy and has a mention-worthy climax. As mentioned in the end card, the director has made the film as an ode to the Indian Army.

Verdict :  This fully loaded gun is a sure shot hit!

I'm not competing with Vijay, he is in different level - Simbu

As Vijay’s Thuppaki releases this Diwali there are few movies that are set to clash with it and Simbu’s Poda Podi is one among them.

The Tamil film lovers eagerly await the arrival of Deepavali to catch the latest releases. Some filmmakers have decided to postpone their releases in an attempt to avoid their films from clashing with the big names such as Vijay’s Thuppakki.

In a recent interview Simbu clarified that he was not competing with Vijay as he considers him to be more senior and as a star belonging to a completely different level.

Known to be die hard fan of Ajith Kumar, Simbu said that there was no intention of creating a box-office war between his Poda Podi and Vijay’s Thuppakki and the media should never compare the two stars.

Only a handful of movies are boldly releasing on the same day as the Vijay-A.R. Murugadoss action entertainer. Thangar Bachchan’s Ammavin Kaipesi being one and Simbu’s Poda Podi being the other.

Vijay's financial aid for Thuppakki

Kalaipuli S Thanu, the producer of Thuppakki, recently revealed that the lead actor of the film, Vijay had chipped in with cash during emergencies.

When quizzed Vijay about this, he reportedly said that he had extended help when Kajal Aggarwal's and Santosh Sivan's dates were going unused due to financial crunch.

The actor clarified the issue saying that that doesn't make him the primary producer of the film. "I have come forward to help many producers financially many times, but that doesn't make me the producer of the film," said Vijay.

Movie review : Nanban

Movie Review: Nanban

Production: Gemini Film Circuit
Direction: Shankar
Star-casts: Vijay, Jiiva, Ileana, Srikanth, Sathyaraj, Srikanth, Sathyan, Anuya Bhagvath and others
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Cinematography: Manoj Paramahamsa

The fanfare was quite low in major cities of Tamil Nadu and of course South Indian states merely because ‘Nanban’ is a remake of ‘3 Idiots’. The Hindi blockbuster movie managed to sweep everyone’s senses for its captivating theme, a strong message conveyed through hilarious ingredients with a blend of emotional quotient.

Well, when it comes to a remake, of course the filmmakers want to point one as the protagonist and not all, which indeed is a major reason, why Kollywood is still behind Bollywood in spite of having the greatest technicians, best actors, etc…

While the Hindi version had the title ‘3 Idiots’ it gave equal importance to all the three characters – Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and Madhavan and now ‘Nanban’ is just about Vijay.

Let us not draw conclusions between these movies and now start with the analysis.

The film opens with Venkata Ramakrishnan (Srikanth) and Sevalkodi Senthil (Jiiva) starting their journey across the beautiful locales, not for a leisure trip, but in search of someone, who changed their lives enlightening them about their passion, listening to heart and today making them as the most eminent personalities of the industry. He is none other than Panchavan Parivendan aka Paari (Vijay). As the journey begins, the journey within starts travelling down their memory lane…. Amongst them travelling is Srivatsan (Sathyan), a topper in their class and today a bigwig in his technological industry. He is here to inform their buddy Paari that he has won the bet he had placed before years.

The flashback is about the college days and the machine lives of engineering students with the toughest professors including Virumandi Santhanam (Sathyaraj) making it tougher for them. While the students strive to achieve success in their own terms, which is about getting highest marks by mugging up the books without understanding them, Paari crystallizes them to core.

But we have something quite shocking to see as the suspense pops up when the friends reach the place happily to Paari only to see some other person (played by SJ Suryah).

Who actually Paari was? Is there some mystery behind his identity? Go watch it over the screens that is done in engrossing way, though it is a replication, but done in Shankar’s way.

The film has a splendid message that everyone is hero in their own topics and fields. So there is no point distinguishing between white collar and blue collar jobs. Follow your heartbeat, discover your passion, develop your skills and success will follow you, you need not chase it.

The greatest highlight that offers justice to the original version is Shankar’s ability to bring in the right kind of actors. It’s not for the sake of favoring someone in particular, but Vijay is the only actor, who can pose jovially as a college student although many have been striving to look so. On the pars, Jiiva’s characterization is engrossing and more of humour. Watch out for his family portions that will kill you with absolute laughter. Srikanth’s role as a typical orthodox middle class family is done well. It’s good that Shankar has thrown off the star-value and given importance to Srikanth as he narrates the entire story. Ileana looks apt for the role of a medical student and her performance as an innocuous child like heart is nice. Her portions during the penultimate sequences are appreciable. Sathyan looks little annoying for the role as he doesn’t carry the humorous images and Shankar could have chosen someone else to essay this role, maybe Omi Vaidya himself.

The dialogues are almost the same from the original version but Shankar and Madhan Karky add up some gripping lines to savor to the tastes of Tamil audiences.

Technically, the film is brilliant than the original version with the promising technicians like Harris Jayaraj (fails to score well in background, but few songs are good) and top-notching cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa, especially the songs are excellent.

On the whole, ‘Nanban’ is a special treat for the universal audiences, especially to the youth crowd. We recommend the educational institutions to screen special shows for all its students for its great message.

Verdict: A NANBAN FOR EVERYONE… DON’T MISS IT

Velayudham Film review

velayutham-Movie-Review
The making of the superstarin Vijay is already begun and this film ‘Velayudham’ has rightly showed the big path the way the future Vijay projects should be made!
Yes, Vijay has taken the path of Rajinikanth of the 1990s. The films of those years catapulted thesuperstar to another level to see Rajini in the unshaken stage of evergreen top star of Tamil cinema. They also set a political platform for Rajinikanth. And, the same is happening now for Vijay. And, with ‘Velayudham’ the stage is perfectly set!
Vijay is a village milkman, who is a happy-go-lucky guy and also liked by one and all. Saranya Mohan plays the sister of Vijay. Hansika Motwani the village beauty falls in love with Vijay.
A twist comes in the normal life of the village that fuels the angry young vigilante in the ordinary milkman. Vijay transforms into a vigilante and the savior of the village people from the hands of the evil minds.
Genelia D ‘Souza comes to the village as a TV reporter, and while she captures the hearts of her TV viewers her heart is stolen by Vijay.
So, how the Vigilante Vijay defeats the evil forces and saves his people is said in a heart-gripping action sequences and intelligent climax! And, also who wins the heart of Vijay among the two ladies – Genelia or Hansika? Watch it all and everything in ‘Velayutham’ in the Silverscreen!
‘Velayudham’ is another milestone movie for Vijay as the movie has set the right stage for his political avatar! His varied body language as ordinary milkman and as a vigilante proves that the actor has matured to the next level.
Genelia has shed her girl-next-door image and comes as a new girl with a difference. Hansika impresses with her bubbly acting.
velayutham-Review
Santhanam’s comedy is another highlight of the film. Saranya Mohan also does a neat role in the film. Shayaji Shinde comes as villain. A big star cast has spread over the film including M S Baskar, Sathyan, Ilavarasu, Vincent Ashokan and Raaghav.
Music by Vijay Antony is extraordinary. His songs are already topping the charts. The songs ‘Chillax…’ and ‘Ratthathin Rathame…’ are big hits.
Priyan’s camera and V T Vijayan’s editing play a major role in the success of the film.
For the first time Graphics has been used this much for a Vijay film.
velayudham-Tamil-Movie-Review
Director ‘Jeyam’ Raja is famous for his remake hits with those romantic and family dramas. But, this time he has done an original action film. This big effort of ‘Velayudham’ will definitely make him sign some more big action movies.
Overall, ‘Velayudham’ is a super duper hit film that is going to see Vijay at another level of Stardom!
