Thuppakki (English: Gun) is an upcoming Tamil action thriller film written and directed by A. R. Murugadoss. The film will feature Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal, in the lead roles along with Vidyut Jamwal, Jayaram, Sathyan, Gautham Kurup and Akshara Gowda in supporting roles. The film is produced by S. Thanu and features background score and soundtrack composed by Harris Jayaraj with cinematography handled by Santhosh Sivan, who with Thuppakki will introduce the Arri Alexa camera to Indian cinema.
The story of the film revolves around a youngster from a Mumbai-based Tamil family. The happy-go-lucky man's life undergoes a sudden turn. The decisions he takes after that is the rest of the story. Said by the director A.R.Murugadoss. The film, which commenced production in December 2011 in Mumbai, is slated coinciding with Diwali festival on 13 November 2012. Thuppakkiis among the most anticipated films to be released in the year 2012.

Post 7aum Arivu, director AR Murugadoss has come up with an action film, Thuppakki. With Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead, this film has a strong technical crew consisting of Asia Pacific’s first ASC member Santosh Sivan behind the lens, Sreekar Prasad before the editing desk and Harris Jayaraj as the music composer. The film was initially funded by SA Chandrasekhar, but was later handed over to Kalaipuli Thanu. This film also marks the introduction of the newest Arri digital technology into the Indian film industry.
The Vijay starrer went through a lot of barriers since the release of its first look. A case was filed by an NGO against the makers for releasing a poster showing Vijay smoking a cigar. Later, when the makers announced their release date, a title war arose against the Kalla Thuppakki team. The release date was recently confirmed after the judgment came in favor of AR Murugadoss and team. Vijay, who appears as a DIA specialist in Thuppakki, has also made a comeback as a singer. With Jayaram, Vidyut Jamwal, Anupama Kumar, Sathyan, Manobala and Deepthi Nambiar playing important characters, Thuppakki is releasing on Diwali amidst very high expectations. TRAILER
The US theatrical rights of Vijay starrer Thuppakki has been sold for a good price. ATMUSEntertainment, which had recently distributed Ajith Kumar’s Billa 2 and Surya’s Maattrraan, has bagged the rights.
Reports say that many others, including FICUS and GK Media, were in the race but it was ATMUS Entertainment which had the last laugh. FICUS has paid a whopping amount for the rights and it is said to be the highest-ever paid price for a Vijay film.
The actor’s star value and the director’s success rate has fetched the undisclosed huge price for the distribution rights. However, the exact price paid for the rights has not been revealed.
Thuppakki will hit the screens worldwide on November 9. In Tamil Nadu, the film isexpected to release in 450 screens. It is an action-thriller directed by AR Murugadoss and produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu.
Thuppakki features Vijay, Kajal Aggarwal and Vidyut Jamwal in the leads. The movie is set in Mumbai, and Ilayathalapathy plays the role of a cop.
